Frome Museum has a collection of local geology and archaeology objects & artefacts. The museum also holds an important collection of ice-age (Pleistocene) bones from a cave located on the edge of Frome at Stoke St Michael, Somerset.
Frome Museum plans to improve the geology and archaeology display for the public over the coming year by adding new exhibits, improving the written information associated with the exhibits so that it is accurate and easier to understand, including more pictures and photographs so the displays are more attractive and interesting.
What else is happening with geology & archaeology?
- Frome Museum volunteers are sorting through the geology & archaeology collections at the museum to ensure they are stored safely in a good environment, are curated and made available for study and for promotion to the public.
- Frome Museum volunteers are also developing a ‘handling’ collection – these are fossils and rocks that will be loaned to schools to allow children to touch and hold them.
